I grew up feeling unwanted from a very young age.
I knew my family loved me, yet I still felt a gaping hole inside.
In public school, one of my closest friends wrote a descriptive paper about me that confirmed for me this notion that I was unwanted. She wanted a mutual friend all to herself and publically hurt me in order to do so.
Then with each break up in high school, added to the struggles cliques play out in the mix, my feeling unwanted just grew and grew.
When cheated on, this lie fanned into full flame.
For years, I hardened my heart and allowed this lie to become part of my identity.
Shielding yourself with a lie only leaves you more exposed.
But God was waiting to reveal the truth.
As much as the wounds and actions of the adults around me when I was young guided me towards faulty conclusions, it was my choice to nurture the lie as I became more mature.
Even recently, being rejected in a few situations has tried to rehook me to this lie that I am unwanted.
God has been showing me the Truth to use in combat as I break off and fight this lie.
1. He has aspired for me to be His from the beginning:
He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him in love. Ephesians 1:4
2. He has added me to His lineage:
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household. Ephesians 2:19
3. He has always planned for me to be His:
God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 2 Thessalonians 2:13
The truth He has whispered to me through these verses?
- I have been wanted from the beginning of time.
- I have always been His choice.
- I will eternally be His daughter.
Today, ask God to highlight a lie which has kept you from receiving His truth into your heart, mind & spirit.
Invite Him to cast out the lie in the light of His Presence and power of His holy might.
Welcome the wider expanse of freedom in Him on the other side of letting go of that lie.
Allow Him to shut the door on its return by equipping you with the Truth, and writing it firmly on your heart.
May you always reach out to God for His truth in every situation, and see His light shine upon you with His love and favor.
