cover me

This morning when I woke up, I didn’t put much thought into what I was going to wear. I have paired down to a capsule wardrobe so it’s much easier on early start days to get up and dressed.

Before I got breakfast, I felt led to go back and check an old folder of artwork I made a few years ago.

And these verses popped out at me….

Put on then, as <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29513B" data-link="(B)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29513C" data-link="(C)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>compassionate hearts, <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29513D" data-link="(D)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>kindness, <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29513E" data-link="(E)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>humility, meekness, and patience… Colossians 3:12 ESV

And above all these put on <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29515J" data-link="(J)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>love, which <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29515K" data-link="(K)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>binds everything together in <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29515L" data-link="(L)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;”>perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14 ESV

And I knew that I was to invite Him anew to clothe me as only He can do, with the characteristics that cloak Him.

  • holiness
  • compassion
  • kindness
  • humility
  • patience (aka self-control)

And to overall, put on love.

What motivates His actions is to motivate mine.

However He is clothed, I am to be clothed likewise, as He desires me.

But there was another verse inbetween these two, that I initially missed until I got called into work.

Bearing with one another and, <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29514G" data-link="(G)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top;”>if one has a complaint against another, <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29514H" data-link="(H)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top;”>forgiving each other; <span class="crossreference" data-cr="#cen-ESV-29514I" data-link="(I)” style=”font-size: 0.625em; line-height: 22px; vertical-align: top;”>as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Colossians 3:13 ESV
Two of the first staff I talked with replied abruptly to my questions. Both didn’t even try to get where I was coming from, one of them having abruptly cut me off.

Quite honestly, it didn’t make me want to stay when I was covering another person’s shift while still not feeling 100%.

And then God reminded me of the verses above…how His love and patience and kindness made a way for me to be forgiven my faults.

So I could forgive those who offended me from my place under cover of His embrace, with the same grace He had extended to me.

This same grace which He still extends to me, daily. This new mercy, yours and mine, freshly offered every morning.

I forgave them, and felt the weight of His blessing fall upon me as I obeyed His Word.

Which of these verses do you struggle with the most?

I am now adding these verses to my pray through list this year.

I want my first thoughts each morning to be about what He wants me to be wearing. His Words to be savoring. His life through me to be living.

A fresh covering of His Presence every day!
