Make yourselves at Home

I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved Me. Make yourselves at home in My love. John 15:9 (MSG)

I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved Me. Make yourselvesat home in My love.

At the end of a particular weary or long day, there is nothing I long for more than to be at home with my loved ones.  For I know they love me, and I can completely be myself around them. Fully loved, fully loving.

This didn’t used to be the case. At one time, we were all missing one another’s love languages, and home was not a place we longed to return to, nor a refuge in that stormy season.

I sought the help of a Christian counselor, who recommended The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman.  All four of us quickly took the quiz. We soon realized that two of us were very different from the others in how we showed and received love. This truth allowed us to implement much needed change, and the atmosphere in our relationships and home shifted, almost immediately for the better.

Love began to make itself at home with us.

But the key wasn’t just knowledge on its own, but the Holy Spirit helping us to love one another as God loves us:

  • Thinking of one another first.
  • Supporting each other to health and wholeness.
  • Making space to be at home with each other.
  • Loving one another, even on the days when we aren’t quite so lovely or loving.

When love rules our hearts, we are at home in His love.

When love rules our hearts, we are at home in His love.

God longs for nothing more than for us to come running to Him, so He can pour His heart into us.

God longs for nothing more than for us to come running to Him, so He can pour His heart into us.

The more time we spend with Him, the more we can make ourselves at home in His love!

  1. Love this, Karla! I was just sharing yesterday on FB with a non-believer that I know Jesus is real because He has put a love for God and other people in my heart, which I know would not be there otherwise. Your post says this beautifully!
