playing small

Most people live in fear of what others will think, how they’ll react, and it holds them back from being their true selves.” Miyo stared deep into Dana’s eyes. “Where do you play small, Dana?””

– Spirit Bridge by James L. Rubart

Where do you play small?

How do you hold back?

What fears are running their plays in your mind, and stirring up your emotions?

We all have the tendency to play small when we are looking at things from our own perspective.

We need the big picture, or guidance from the One who sees all: God.

I can tend to play out scenarios in my mind, and finish them the way I think the other person will act.

Which isn’t fair to either myself or the person I am thinking about.

We can spend way more time that we realized wondering what others think about what we may or may not do.

Now common sense is not a bad thing. Sticking your finger on to a hot element will get you a nice burn if you were never told about it. Doing it again and again isn’t wise.

Yet we do the same thing with our made up scenarios.

We allow fear to burn us over and over again without learning our lesson the first time.

Its time to stop playing small.

God wants for us to be the best us we can be.

Spending time in His Presence reminds us about what is important to us, what God thinks of us and His hopes for our future.

If God thought we were worth dying for, playing small undermines the price He paid for you, for me.

Stand up tall, relying on His strength to help you as you take the steps towards the life God has for you.

Read His Words, meant to guide us and remind us how much He loves us.

Listen to His heart, wrapped in the person of Jesus, found on the pages.

Follow His Spirit, as He whispers God’s peace within you, helping equip you to be all He has for you to be.

Instead of playing small,
stand tall.
His grace is more than enough.
